This morning's debate is about Marijuana. Personally I dont smoke weed so I am neither pro or con on the subject, but this blog is just to point out situations and voice my opinion on the subject. Seems like everywhere I go someone is talkin bout weed, talkin bout gettin some weed, smokin' weed, tryin to buy weed, hell and some places I've been even sellin some weed. Rappers rap about it in their lyrics, Entertainers use it...its a recreational drug. From my experiences through conversation, it makes you hungry and sleepy...LOL
Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto tested positive for marijuana at the World Baseball Classic. He through the Cubs released a statement saying, "While I fully acknowledge my inappropriate behavior I want to assure my fans and my family that this is an isolated incident." His skipper Lou Pinella also said that he had partaken of the bud. Albeit in defense of his player and to take some of the pressure off the youngster. Hell when Lou played ball though erybody and their moms was smokin so his statement really meant nothin. Record setting and breaking Olympic athletes Michael Phelps (US Swimming sensation) and Usain Bolt (Fastest Jamaican alive) have both been in weed contraversies, Bolt admitted to smoking it as a youth (and how old is this cat 19?) and of course we all know of Phelps photo of him hittin the bong...that was taken by (and prolly leaked by) a "friend".
Lil Wayne has been caught with weed on several occassions, and in an interview with "America's sweetheart" Katie Curic said and I quote "I will stand up for marijuana any day... I'm a rapper. Thats who I am, Miss Katie and I am a gangster and I do what I want. And I love to smoke. And I smoke." He even wrote a song called "I Feel Like Dying" (YouTube that joint, its got a hot beat). Weed is a rappers staple. The list is far too long to list, but cats like Method Man and Redman, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and even the comical Afroman who is famous for his song, "Because I Get High". Dr. Dre has named two solo albums after weed, The Chronic and the Chronic 2001...both were soundtracks to smoke by. Hell Bob Marley is probably the most famous musical proponent of the herb.
I'm pretty sure that plenty entertainers smoke. Robert Downey Jr was definetly a pot head. There have been plenty movies that are primarily focused on weed...Half Baked, Dazed and Confused, Pineapple Express, and all three of the Friday trilogies have invoked weed smoke in the plots. Matter of fact in Next Friday there was a scene where Craig (Ice Cube) had a sess session with his uncle (D.C. Curry) and his girlfriend (Kym Whitley), afterwhich they had 2 minute sex and Craig hallucinates about the girl from next door, until the delivery man comes to the door and blew his high. Dave Chappell is an advocate of the bud...He says it in his standup routine, movies and even in his Chappell Show skits... It aint hard to tell...
Weed isnt limited to just athletes and entertainers. Public officials have either admitted to "experimented" with weed. Some have had unfavorable results and some have become iconic. Douglas Ginsberg a former Supreme Court nominee of the Reagan administration had to withdraw from the nomination when it was discovered that he had smoked weed before. Former President Bill Clinton (newly inducted into the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity LOLOLOL!) admitted to experimenting with weed in England... he said he didnt like it and "I didn't inhale". In a 2004 Presidential debate aired on CNN, Anderson Cooper read a viewer email question to panel and asked which of the Congressional seat holders vying for the Presidency had smoked before, John Kerry and John Edwards both admitted to it, while John Lieberman went so far as to proceed his answer with the disclaimer, "I have a reputation for giving unpopular answers in Democratic debates, I never used marijuana, sorry...". Even the P.O.T.U.S. Barack Obama admitted to smoking pot, "When I was a kid [pause], I inhaled, frequently, [pause], that was the point...".
Its an accepted part of the culture. While some states have legalized medicinal marijuana, 10 to be exact (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington), Im of the opinion that it should be legalized. My moms said (and yes she and I talk about damn near everything with the exception of me gettin married, LOL) that weed needs to be sold out of police stations, in small quantities (nickel and dime sacks) that way you have a list of those who purchases and it can be taxed...With the 9% sales tax in New Orleans your weed would be $5.45 hell they could sell a blunt for .50 and round it all up to 6 bucks... I told her it was a good idea cause cops are corrupted anyway...She laughed but I was dead serious. But whats the problem with legalizing street grade marijana? Have you ever seen anyone get shot up, or robbed, or breaking and entering after smokin a joint, blunt, bong, or whatever? I know I havent. The most I've seen is niggaz fall asleep or make a run for the corner store wit the munchies. I know that this may not sit well with the trafficers and kingpins, but you wont get in any trouble as long as you move it in small quantities and give receipts. It would be just like movin Newports cross state lines. No biggie. Its still gonna get moved and it is what it is...
