National French Fries Day...

The French Fry or Pommes Frites as the French call em...dates back to the 17th Century in BELGIUM not France. The inhabitants of the region which was known as the Spanish Netherlands (go figure that out) used to eat small fish with their meals... When the weather was too bad to fish, they would cut up potatoes to resemble the fish and fry them. That served as an excellent substitute.
July 13... a national holiday that NEEDS to be recognized by the federal government and IMO would be overwhelmingly ratified in a landslide vote. What red blooded American citizen do you know that CAN NOT resist a good french fry. Not one that I know. For years as I have grown into the man you see before you, I have had a certain affinity for the french fry. And to know that today is National French Fries Day has knocked me for the grandest of loops.

The french fry and I have a relationship that transcends love...As a child growing up that was the one thing that I knew was gonna always be good to eat (yes, iWas a picky eater)...and something that iKnew my grandmother would make anytime iAsked for it. We would have chicken and fries, fish and fries, burgers and fries, hot dogs and fries. Now dont get me wrong, there were other foods on the plate, but none more important than the french fries.

As I got into eating away from home...you know hittin' fast food joints and what have you. iAlways paid attention to the french fries, and the ways you could eat them. My first encounter with chilli cheese fries was maybe when iWas 7 or 8. iPlayed little league baseball and we won the first game of the season...after which our coaches took us to Frosto where we got anything we wanted, (as long as it was within reason). Being the adventurous kid, iOrdered the chili cheese fries and the Pepsi float, while the rest of the kids got burgers and fries and sodas. Needless to say...that summer iAte a gang of chili cheese fries cause we won a lot of games. Then there was my first McDonald's experience...LAWD HAMMERCY! iFeel in love with arguably the greatest french fries ever to hit the grease. I have no idea whether its the grease, the potato, or the fact that i know what they are gonna taste like that makes em so damn good. I even got a job at Mickey D's in high school just to get to the fries #FatBoyConfession

*insert Ric Flair bravado*
I've had fries at restaurants, hole in the walls, bars, and all the major and minor food chains all over the world...ive had em with chili, cheese, chili and cheese...loaded like a baked potato...with mayonnaise, mustard, and even cole slaw. You name it...I've had it. and they.ve always been good, seriously you can't mess up french fries...
*scene*

Today on yumsugar.com there was an article on the 4 Massively Underrated Toppings for French Fries...
1.) Kimchi
2.) Chutney
3.) Pastromi
4.) Tartar Sauce

I'm not too keen on fermented cabbage on top or pastromi...but im sure gonna go cut me up a potato and try some cranberry chutney RIGHT NOW...

Enjoy your day

"Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?" - Louis Armstrong

OK family,
I came home from Atlanta yesterday, and I dont care where I have been over the country, there is no place like home. The homies, the atmosphere, the damn raggedy ass streets and most importantly...the fam. I got to the crib, unpacked my clothes and went straight to the fridge...STUPID MOVE KILLA, you been gone a month. So what do I do? What any other red blooded American boy would. Go get something to eat. After a steady diet of gyros, chicken wings, and pizza ,I was somewhat conflicted about what it was that was gonna die a miserable death, cause whatever it is will get banged up.

Do I want Popeye's, Seafood or a Po Boy? Clearly I want a po boy sammich of the OYSTER variety, and thats what I get. So I go to the neighborhood Daquiri Shop and place my order...Oyster on french fried hard dressed with cheese, lemon juice, and HOT SAUCE! Coupled with a Barq's Root Beer and beaucoup napkins...it was good and I have the belly to prove it.

Gotta run, shooting a party tonight, but first I gotta get my money from this character for this wedding and if he aint got it, there's gonna be trouble...trouble...

In the kitchen...

Recipe for Ya ka mein

Ingredients:
one can broth chicken or beef (chic
ken preferably)
1 green bell pepper (optional)
two
stalks of green onion (one stalk is for garnish)
two boiled eggs (amount depends on how
many you will serve--example is just one serving size)
1 bottle of worstershire sauce
1 bottle of soy sauce

1 pound of thinly sliced steak, chicken, pork roast or seafood

Boiled vegetables (any kind you like)(optional)

1 small box of noodles

Cooking Instructions:
First heat up broth and add worstershire sauce to desired taste.

Have noodles, eggs, and vegetables boiling at the same time.
After 30 minutes of watching broth, add your cooked meat and chopped green onion and bell pepper. Start to add vegetables and boiled eggs minutes after. Lastly at boiled noodles, then let cook for 15 more minutes. Serve and Garnish with more green onion on top.

Now here is where the problem comes in...I didnt have the chicken or beef broth, the bell pepper, the eggs, worstershire or the
soy sauce, the pound of steak, chicken, pork roast, or seafood. I had a can of peas (but I wasnt finna waste that on this here) and I didnt have the noodles. So can you guess what I had??? You guessed it...

That's Right...
